The Government of India is considering a proposal to give admission to girl students in Sainik Schools and the National Defence Academy (NDA). Only boys are eligible to these schools now.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee has suggested to take girs into these schools. There were several PILs also filed in the courts. Many experts also suggested to admit girls into Sainik Schools and prepare them for NDA. The NDA is not taking girl cadets since beginning.
There are at present 26 Sainik Schools in the country. 21 more schools will be set up across the country. Proposals to set up another 64 Sainik Schools are under consideration.
The Sainik Schools are established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society under the Defence Ministry, Government of India. Sainik Schools prepare students for entry into the NDA and the Indian Naval Academy (INA).
