July - 18

National: Ministry of Health & family welfare, Government of India launched the Nation - wide National Tobacco Control Campaign known as Tears you apart.

Books & Authors: An Uncertain Glory: India and its contradictions authored by Jean Dreze and Amartya Sen was released.

Awards: Paul Hewson, popularly known as Bono, the frontman of the rock band U2 as well as the anti-poverty activist was awarded with the commander of the order of the arts and letters, the Highest cultural award of France on 17th July 2013 for the contribution of music.

Deaths: Veteran (Vaali) Tamil lyricist passes away at the age of 82 years in Chennai.
- British Indian actor Paul Bhattacharjee, who played the role of a doctor in "James Bond" film "Casino Royale' has been found dead in London.
- Veteran Communist leader Samar Mukherjee died in Kolkata.

July - 19

Sports: Ivana Maria Furtado of Goa defeted Delhi's 12th seed Madhurima Shekhar in the National Junior U - 19 Chess Championship in Lucknow.
- Former South Africa player Dave Staniforth has been appointed as goalkeeping coach and strategic analyst of the Indian senior and junior men's team, Hockey India announced.

Conferences & Summits: Finance ministers and central bankers from Group of 20 leading and emerging economies (G20) are starting a two-day meeting in Moscow from 19th July.

Persons in News: Justice P. Sathasivam has been sworn in as the 40th Chief Justice of India (CJI) by President Pranab Mukherjee replacing Justice Altamas Kabir.

Persons in News: US President Barack Obama has nominated an Indian - American Nisha Desai Biswal for the key post of Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia.
- She will replace incumbent Robert Blake.

July - 20

Persons in News: Sports ministry has recommended Hockey legend Major Dyanchand's name for India's highest civilian honour the Bharatha Ratna.

Economy & Banking: India's Foreign Exchange (Forex) reserves increased by $ 2.1 million to $ 280.18 billion for the week ended July 12th according data released by the Reserve Bank of India.

Science & Technology: China successfully launched three satellites The Chuang Xin - 3, Shiyan - 7 and Shijian - 15 satellites were boosted by Long March - 4C carrier rocket according to the Taiyuan satellite launch centre in north China's Shanxi province.

Sports: West Indies Test and T20 captain Darren Sammy has etched his name in the history books by becoming the first Caribbean sports personality to be named brand ambassador for German Automobile giant BMW.

Appointments: President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed Nagaland Governor Dr. Ashwini Kumar as Governor of Manipur (with additional charge) when the incumbent, Gurbachan Jagat, Governor of Manipur, completes his tenure.

Deaths: Khurshed Alam Khan, a former Union Minister and father of External Minister Salman Khurshid, died at the age of 95.

Sports: The South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship began at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
- American Swimmer Haley Anderson won 5 km open water race to take the first gold medal of the Swimming World Championship.
